Adams County Sheriff Sale Lists Multiple Farm Tracts

Public auction set for June 7 1930 at Gettysburg Court House exposes nine Adams County farms and tracts across Huntington Menallen Tyrone and Carlisle roads. Properties include Woodview Orchard Hill Top Orchard Home Farm Crumm Farm Hoff man Farm and J A Brown Farm with hundreds of acres and multiple dwellings and improvements.

Fr Huber to Mark Fiftieth Anniversary

The Very Rev. James A. Huber pastor of St Joseph's Hanover marks his fiftieth anniversary of ordination with a high mass on Tuesday June 10 at 9 o clock. He was ordained June 24 1880 in Philadelphia by Archbishop Wood. He has served St Joseph's for over 26 years, helping the parish grow from about 820 to 1200 and oversee eight imported stained glass windows costing about 150 each.

Pole collapses near Adams County home injures none

A 55 foot flagpole at the Adams County home broke in three places as contractor Charles Kappes and inmates watched. The upper section toppled toward Harrisburg road and crashed into Kappes sedan. Kappes and inmates scrambled away as the pole fell. The contractor had been painting from a lower height when the staff joints gave way. The Hemler residence at McSherrystown was repainted by Herbert Warren.

State Takes Over Maintenance Of State Highway Bridges

The state highway department now assumes full maintenance costs for all bridges on state routes, transferring ownership from counties. Counties still own bridges not on state highways. Over 2,100 county bridges became state property last year, with 212 wooden bridges already taken for rebuilding as part of road improvement plans.

Auto Crashes Into Culvert Three Hurt

Edward Moul a 69 year old York man suffered a hip injury and shock when his sedan hit a iron guard rail at a culvert on Hanover road one mile east of Gettysburg. He was eastbound at high speed after a westbound truck passed. The car zigzagged struck the rail broke a wheel nosed over and was loaded on a truck. Two other occupants escaped with minor injuries.

Thieves Break Into Gettysburg Apartments

Jewelry valued over $800 was stolen from two fourth floor Gettysburg apartments, those of Miss Mahel Grenoble and Angelo Camberis, between 11:30 a.m. and 2:15 p.m. Monday. The burglar entered by forced locks, ransacking Grenoble's dressers and Camberis's suit, leaving few clues. City police noted the thief appeared to know the residents well and left no obvious signs. The incident followed later notes on the Adams County Institute dates and a bankruptcy decree for J. N. Hufnagle of Hanover with assets listed at $100 and debts of $10,563.90.

Colonel Scott Dies After Memorial Day Services

James K. P. Scott 86 known as Colon el, Civil War veteran and Gettysburg historian, died at Warner hospital soon after Memorial Day events at the National Cemetery. He authored The Story of the Three Days Battles at Gettysburg, published 1927. He and his father served in the Civil War. he was married to Beth Waring of Philadelphia. Full military honors were given at his funeral.

Poultry business owner dies in York room

William H. Oerman aged 39 died suddenly Wednesday night in his York room. He ran a poultry and produce business from the same address. George Hamme, an employee, found the body when he went to talk to his employer. County coroner Dr. L L Zech ruled death by heart attack.
