Chas Haar will lead the L V Straley shoe and harness shop on Lincoln Way East. Dr J L Sheetz celebrates a birthday. Pentacostal meeting set for Swift Run schoolhouse. Various local business renovations, car dealings, and farm demonstrations noted. Community events include dances at Cafe Dicks and many town visits by residents and visitors.
Local notices report numerous weddings from Hanover and nearby towns. Couples include Marguerite Enmert and Guy Nearing in Delaware, Lillie Seaks and Robert G. Evans in Albuquerque, and several Hanover pairs such as Estella Berkheimer with George Gross and Laura Hahn with Ralph Bowers.
Real estate notes report Miley Miller tearing down old Miss Annie Miller property near Hampton to build storage shed on farm near Hamp ton, with Chas Bentz occupant. Chas Dicks plans a bungalow and garage on Miller lot. John H Shaffer sold 89 acre Paradise Twp farm to Samuel Krout for 3500 with possession April 1. A Haffe buys McCleaf farm near Gettysburg after years in Central America. Arthur L Bubb sells 25 acre Bermudian farm to Carvin King for 4800 with possession April 1. Several Gettysburg area residents and neighbors from Guldens Newville Ripon Calif Gettysburg attended William Allison home Seven Stars Sunday.
Ambush on a road near Krentler's schoolhouse left Emanuel Rohrbaugh dead and Minnie Resh wounded. Samuel Bowman, the alleged shooter, was found dead by hanging, with authorities noting Bowman's threats toward Resh and Rohrbaugh amid a yearslong close to the Resh woman. Funeral services drew nearly 3000 at Hoke's Grove Tabernacle as Rohrbaugh’s Army service was recalled.
A rugged Saturday shows Taneytown defeating Tanestown with strong offense led by Hitchcock and Simpson from New Oxford, while Enola’s powerhouse team faces New Oxford in a pivotal fourth game. Fans packed the scene as Midway and other local clubs posted high scoring wins and tight pitching duels.
Willi Pike Lloyd, 21, of York, sits jailed while police investigate further car thefts tied to him. Lloyd confessed to stealing a Ford near Central Market and a second vehicle owned by David Border. One car was found in Williamsport, another abandoned on Jackson Street School grounds. A third vehicle was reported missing from Adan Waltman of Mast Berlin Road.
George W. Boose, 22, of Dillsburg, and Florence A. Gulden, 18, of Straban township, obtained licenses. At Westminster, Clinton W. Allison and Anna A. Caler, both of Hanover, George A. Williams of Hanover and Bernice Baublitz of York were noted for licenses.
The notice lists the funeral for Ralph Bream in New Chester with services Sunday at 2 PM conducted by Rev. Hur Kehm, aged 22, a former Naval Railway Battery member. It notes other local Legion duties and a separate WWII hero’s funeral plans in Littlestown, while a Ford touring car crash near Bonnauville injures several, with Augustis Noel and Miss Smith among the injured and the vehicle crashing into a telephone pole.
Matinee races set for Saturday July 23 at Millhimes Grove between Hunterstown and New Chester. Kiddie C Glenister and Brandon Hale enter the free-for-all. Refreshments and music provided. Admission varies by age with free evening. If ruined, races postponed to July 30 with orchestra.
Leander Vrick owner of a touring car from Hanover formerly of East Berlin saw his vehicle nearly burnt out late Saturday night after breaking down on Abbotstown pike. The car was left alongside the road and set ablaze from an undetermined cause. The car insured and unattended by its owner. First Lutheran church services announced for Sunday with Sunday school and morning worship led by Rev. W. M. Allison. Boy Scouts from Dicks dam plan to attend church services. Michael Staub of Berlin Junction released on $300 bail after larceny charge. Michael Reibold, formerly of town, now works in a York barber shop.
