William Werwager of New Oxford Future Farmers of America was chosen top swine producer among Adams and York County students at a Lancaster banquet earning a $100 bond. Paul Lease Jr of East Berlin took second with a $50 bond and Vincent Martin of Gettysburg third with a $25 bond. The event recognized county FFA members for swine improvement projects with remarks by Horace Waybright and others, while gifts were awarded to 1946 honorees and next year projects.

Trespass charge on railroad property in Conewago Township
Ervin Smith of Hanover R D 3 faced a trespass information filed by Western Maryland railway detective Milton R Tipton before Justice John H Base Hore in Gettysburg Friday morning. The incident allegedly occurred July 8 in Conewago township. Smith pleaded guilty and paid a fine of $1 plus costs.

Bishop Outlines Priesthood Plans For Harrisburg Diocese
The Most Rev George L. Leech told 109 Holy Name members at Waynesboro that 24 young men will begin priestly studies in September, raising the diocese’s training total to 91 and enabling broader financial aid for early education. He noted the community’s donations support college years and praised continued support for future priests. A 1948 rally was planned for late summer or fall, with Gettysburg and York as possible sites. October 12 meeting at St. Ignatius Buchanan Valley and January gathering at St. Joseph’s Bonneauville were set for the Union’s sessions.

Meningitis Case Second In County
Frederick M. Shearer a 22 year old from Hunters town road was hospitalized at Warner hospital with crerbrospinal meningitis later confirmed by State Sanitarian William Shields. He is the second Adams county case this year. Patricia Baker 18 months old, daughter of Mr and Mrs Harry Baker Gettysburg R3, also fell ill with meningitis on April 30.
Hospital transfers and relapse noted after illness
The person was taken to Warner hospital then returned home a month later. A relapse followed and she was moved to Harrisburg hospital for further care.
