Pennsylvania Highway Patrol acts after reports of a driver nicknamed the snake causing 235 accidents in one month, including three fatalities. Official Benjamin G. Eynon urged motorists to keep clear, avoid weaving, and always ensure the oncoming lane is free before merging.
Pennsylvania amends the motor vehicle code to impose a two dollar fine or one day in jail for hitch hikers. Governor Pinchot signed the amendments on Wednesday, after they were presented by Representative Sheffer of Mifflin.
Pennsylvania will not print electors names on the ballot after Governor Pincher signed the McGregor bill. Presidential and vice presidential candidates will appear as paired tickets under presidential electors, shortening the ballot for easier machine voting. Blank spaces will be provided at the end for voters to write in individual elector selections.
Albert Waltersdorff eight son of Mr and Mrs Allen H Waltersdorff Spring Grove Route 3 died at West Side sanitarium York from gangrene following a fall from his father's barn over head in Ambay station on the Western Maryland railroad. He suffered a double compound fracture of the left forearm and had the arm amputated above the elbow after admission and an operation.
The Adams County Fruit Packing Distributing Company of Biglerville acquired title to and possession of the Biglerville Cold Storage plant on June 19 from Inland Service Corporation. The 75000-barrel capacity facility returns to the former management that operated it from 1911 to two years ago.
Governor Pinchot signed the library aid measure allowing Adams County to build a free non sectarian public library with state aid equal to 75 percent of the county's yearly appropriation. The act covers up to 2500 dollars for the county and requires timely action by county commissioners. Books may be loaned by the Department of Public Instruction for demonstrations and circulation. The department received 20000 dollars to handle aid over the next two fiscal years.
Secretary of Highways Samuel S Lewis orders immediate construction of 12.21 miles of light macadam roads in Adams County. Two sections are built by department forces with local labor. One section links Idaville to the macadam road between Heidlersburg and Biglerville aiding Tyrone and Butler townships to Carlisle Gettysburg Dillsburg and York Springs. The second fills a gap between Frampton and Hungerstown connecting the Harrisburg Gettysburg pike with York Springs to Janover.
The 1930 federal census lists 3333 Adams county farms valued at 18,176,862 dollars. Land value totals 7,419,629 with buildings at 10,757,239. Average farm size drops to 79.3 acres and average value per acre to 68.81 dollars. Owner-operators number 2,500. tenants 696. managers 137. Horses, cattle, hogs all declined since 1920. Cropland 173,050 acres, pasture 43,884, woodland 27,263, other land 19,948.
Fire Marshal William Morgan of the Pennsylvania State Police urges caution for Independence Day celebrations. He notes that hundreds, mostly children, are killed or seriously injured yearly and property is damaged by fireworks before and on July 4. Local ordinances and strict enforcement can prevent fatalities and losses.
