House and Barn Burned in West Manheim Township Fire

A two story frame house and adjacent barn belonging to Elias Gobrecht near Nace's store were destroyed by fire around 1:30 am Friday, with estimated losses about 2000 dollars. The origin is blamed on a spark from a kitchen cook stove igniting coal oil. Mrs. Gobrecht and family narrowly escaped. only four neighbors were present. The fire swept into the nearby barn, and contents were lost except for a few items and a horse and buggy. South Bethlehem notes follow with two suicides and two accidents: Mrs. Benjamin Leibert, age 43, hanged herself after tying a rope to a hay loft. Dr. Philip R. Welsh, 62, dies after trolley-car injuries in Baltimore. Ernest Norris, 31, killed repairing a freight car in Brunswick, and Charles Fox, 80, dies from injuries two hours later. Fox leaves a widow and three children.
