Car Explosion Ends In Narrow Escape
A small touring car owned by George Philips of York Springs exploded when he tried to start it at Charles A. Cleaver’s garage in Wuntington township. The engine head and two front pistons were blown apart and the hood and car parts flew through the roof. Philips and his two brothers in law Ray and Thomas Cleaver narrowly escaped as rock powder believed to be used as fuel caused a loud blast and burnt powder odor filled the air.
