Two hundred persons attended the January York Springs Elementary PTA meeting in the school to mark Founders Day with an essay contest prize winners in Sixth Grade. A citizenship panel discussed proper training for children and recommended an almemeny course. former faculty member Mr. Smith now works for the state Department of Public Instruction. The program featured a skit on PTA origins with Mrs. Middour and Mrs. Bowers in 1890s costumes, and notes on the PTA’s first years and goals. Abbottstown Borough reorganized at its first meeting of the year. Mayor Gerald Myers presided as council accepted George M. Wildasin’s resignation, appointed Wilmer Rodgers to fill the unexpired two year term and named Rodgers president. Wildasin became borough engineer and Bernard Anthony was elected secretary. Charles W. WoW was solicitor. The council will meet the third Wednesday each month at 7 30 in the town hall.

Griffin elected new president of N C Borough Council
Griffin and H Alvin Jones were elected to lead the new borough council for a two year term with no opposition. Jones presided briefly as Griffin was chosen, and the group, sworn in by Mayor Guy Staub, began four year terms for two incumbents and the new member Charles Brashears. The council reappointed solicitor Charles Wolf, secretary Vesta Lingg, and borough manager L C Bevenour. A dispute over Bevenour’s assistant Leon McSherry sparked a cost-savings debate, with Wagner proposing removal of the position and a plan to hire retirees for metering and mowing. Most members backed cutting expenses. Keefer urged study. The council instructed Bevenour to report on McSherry’s duties by February. The 1951 fund opened with a balance under 1900. Parking was referred to a committee. Haines provided a water and sewer report. Wolf noted three delinquent sewer permits remain, with potential action forthcoming, and several permit holders still use outhouses, to be notified. Continued on page 8.

The annual March of Dimes dance to fund polio arthritis and birth defect relief will be at Hotel Gettysburg with Mary Howe's Trio providing music. A second event, the Mademoiselle Club card party in York Springs, will set a date at a club meeting. Area chairmen for multiple communities were announced by Mrs Codori, with no door to door solicitation planned and funds raised by coin boxes and voluntary donations. Half stays in the county unit to aid local patients while half goes to the national program.
