Priday B. R. Anderson a diary extensionist at State college will give an illustrated talk on bee management at the court house. Mr and Mrs Elmer Halter near Littlestown gave a party in honor of their daughter in law Mrs Vernon Halter on her twenty fourth birthday.
The undersigned buyer quits farming and offers for sale at her residence near the stone bridge the following items including two horses a sorrel 14 years old and a black 8 years old and works, one cow calf sold two months ago about 75 chickens farming implements a two horse wagon and bed a McCormick mower and other plows and tools, harness carpenter tools household goods and many other articles not mentioned with logs lumber and a large assortment of kitchen and farm items.
At the same time and place the property will be offered for sale consisting of 27 acres and some perches improved with a 2% story Brick House frame Barn and other out buildings 2 wells of water and land in good state of cultivation. Sale to begin at 1 o'clock. Terms will be made known on day of sale by Mrs Annie E Brown CG Rinehart Aud C G Sheely Clerk.
On Thursday March 26 1930 a public sale of farm assets will occur one mile west of Wew Oxford along the Lincoln Highway. Items include livestock Reds Roans and Guernseys sows and shoats cattle hogs wagons mowers binders planters plows harrows windmill and many tools with terms 12 months credit or 4 percent cash. Sale conducted by FRANK HETRICK Abe Roth and N. C. Miller Aucts. Ladies Aid of First Lutheran church New Oxford to serve refreshments.
Hazleton area resident Mrs Susan Thoman Abbottstown celebrates her 88th birthday while guests honor her winter stay with daughter Mrs Mary Shaffer. Born near Gettysburg she recalls Lee’s 1863 campaign toward Philadelphia and Harrisburg and the three day battle that halted Confederate advances.
The Board of School Directors of East Berlin Borough invites bids for a four room addition to the present school and remodeling of the old building. Plans available from Dr Eugene Elgin secretary. Bids due by 1 PM March 29 1930 at East Berlin PA with $1000 certified check. The board may reject any or all bids. Dr Eugene Elgin secretary J Donald Swope attorney.
East Berlin Borough invites sealed bids for constructing a heating system in a four room addition to the public school building and the old school building. Plans and specifications are available from Dr Eugene Elgin secretary at East Berlin Pennsylvania. Bids due by 1 PM March 29 1930 with a $500 certified check. Right to reject any or all bids.
Mrs. Thoman recalls Civil War days near Abbottstown where women fed hungry Federal troops around Philadelphia and Washington. She recounts how farm families worked the fields while artillery aimed toward Gettysburg and how a toll-gate keeper later reflected on Union sacrifice and local memory.
Gettysburg will host the first unit of a nationwide chain of highway hotels operated by the Motor Ways Service Corporation of America. J. H. Chamberlain, representing Chicago investors, announced the Gettysburg site on the Emmitsburg road two miles from town, with a 32 acre plot secured. The chain aims for uniform design and moderate rates.
Bell Telephone Company prepares a new time of day information service to be established Saturday with a five cent charge per call. J K Sherk, manager, says the service aims to meet demand for accurate time at all hours. The system, planned for Pennsylvania, will add operating expenses for the Bell Company.
