Candid ate B Yohe withdraws from Hamilton township race. A general meeting in New Oxford on May 21 marks anniversary plans. Local residents and visitors are reported in social and church events across Gettysburg Hanover New Oxford and York areas. Community updates include hospital stays school diplomas and fundraisers with several families mentioned.
A community supper in Heidlersburg at the P O A hall is set for Thursday evening Feb 25. The event will feature chicken soup ice cream pies and cakes with music by a Dillsburg orchestra. Local visitors and moves among residents are noted including Grant Deatrick and neighbors and a property sale by Harvey Group near Table Rock.
A daughter named Barbara Ann LeFevre was born to Mr and Mrs Earl LeFevre Venice Florida, formerly Hanover, weighing seven and a half pounds. Patients admitted or discharged at Warner and Harrisburg hospitals include Harriet Lucabaugh Hanover and Miss Louella McAllister Gettysburg. Samuel Craighead 12, operated for acute appendicitis in Harrisburg hospital.
In Gettysburg area speed traps eight motorists were cited or arrested by state patrols along the Lincoln highway. Truck drivers Burton Replogie Johnstown Harry Finfrock Greencastle James Archer Stewartstown and passenger car drivers Frank Ambuster Wheeling F L Monroe Lancaster William McLechlan Garrett Hill James Abby York and Franklin McSorney Pittsburgh faced fines or charges for speeding with several pending informations.
Two brothers appeared before Justice of the Peace John C. Shearer for preliminary hearings. Emesit Carey of Biglerville was discharged after the prosecutor withdrew the information. Carey paid costs of 13.85 after state police and Constable Wilson arrested him for allegedly threatening with a knife while intoxicated. His brother Calvin of near New Oxford was held for court on non support charges. A daughter was born to Mr and Mrs Augustus Orndorff near Cedar Ridge on Sunday.
William H Jacoby 80 of Oxford township dies after a disease illness survived by wife Ida Laughman and 17 children. Malinda Graybill 76 dies at Abbottstown after a week long illness survived by brother Benjamin Graybill. Nellie E Halter 51 dies in Baltimore from disease complications, wife of George J Halter. Cletus H Laughman four month old dies of pneumonia. Wilson O Heller 71 dies in Idaville after heart condition. foreman for Reading Co. with extensive family survivors. Funeral services held in Abbottstown New Oxford and Idaville churches.
George L Ackerman, said to be the oldest resident of McSherrys town, died Thursday afternoon at his home from a complication of diseases at age 36. He had lived in McSherrystown since 1885. Survived by wife Mary Hertz, a son John Ackerman, four daughters, one brother Anthony, and one sister Mrs George Grott Trishtown. Interment followed at Conewago chapel cemetery Monday. Pallbearers were grandsons Charles Ackerman Leroy Leppo and Norman Overbaugh, and Csi George and Furney Rifle Harrisburg.
Consolidation of the First National Bank and Citizens Trust Co will occur within a month. Edmund W. Thomas says capitalization will rise from 150000 and stockholders may subscribe pro rata. Directors authorized the merger. the First National name will continue.
Charles H. Clippinger of Green Castle Franklin County announces his bid for the Republican nomination for state senator from the Adams Franklin district. He follows J B Wineman as a second candidate in the field and previously served four terms as Franklin County district attorney.
A son born to Mr and Mrs Mervin Hankey Two Taverns Just Friday. Mr and Mrs David Katzmiller Gettysburg announce the birth of a seven and a half pound bay. Born Monday to Mr and Mrs Charlies Pittenger Hanover a son. Mrs Pittenger before marriage was Miss Mary A Wilmer. Born to Mr and Mrs Albert Rothier McSherrystown a son. Joseph Albert Mrs Koehine before marriage was Miss Geraldine Cardauch Miss Harriet Cook Gettysburg spent several days with her mother Mrs Lowsa Cook Hanover Street.
A Sunday fire damaged a home on the former Delone farm near Green Ridge school. Neighbors alerted by bells helped control the blaze before firefighters arrived. The chimney on the first floor is blamed, with several pieces of furniture burned and losses in the hundreds of dollars.

The junior class debated whether the United States is justified in joining Italy and England in war against Japan. affirmative speakers Philip Alwine and David Klepper faced negative William Breighner and Annie Clendenin. Judges Lillian Staub Pearly Yohe Blanche Haar scored 39 to 38 for the affirmative.
Mrs. Florence Millhimes, 35, married, of Cumberland Township, was arrested Thursday by Trooper Hahn and Constable Wilson on oath of Constable C. H. Wilson for a statutory offense. Sunday school attendance rises in February across churches. Lincolnway W New Oxford Methodist notes 9:30 starting, 10:15 worship, 7:00, catechetical class at 1:30, Lenten services and special music. Other churches list service times, catechism, and quarterly conference on March 2. York Springs, Abbottstown, Heidlersburg, Chestnut Grove and Pine venues offer sermons, union services, and bi-centennial themes.
A fire started around 12 30 a m at the Park restaurant in New Oxford. Cyril Rickrode and others forced entry to rouse FP J Rider and his son Nevin, bringing the blaze under control before the New Oxford fire company arrived. A short circuit in a milk shaker is listed as the cause, with about 95 dollars in damage.
The Fleet-Wing baseball club of New Oxford elected officers at a meeting in C. J. Smith's shop. Lawrence Stevenour was chosen president, Wilbur Trone vice president, and Roger Britcher secretary and treasurer. John McCadden became manager and Lawrence Bevenour captain. A shooting match is planned for Saturday afternoon March 5 to support baseball this summer.
Joseph J. Weaver of Oxford announces his candidacy for Democratic State committeeman from Adams County. The primary to elect state committeemen is April 26, with Weaver currently unopposed and backed by county Democratic leaders. Also noted is the Ushers league of St Paul’s Reformed Church planning an annual Easter supper on Saturday March 5.
