The Nu Ox Rod and Gun Club meets Tuesday at 7 30. Gils provide music for dancing Saturday at New Oxford Social and Athletic Club. Various local notices cover shopping sales church suppers birthdays naval assignments and community changes.
East Berlin and surrounding towns list weekly services for multiple denominations with times for Sunday schools, masses, catechetical classes, Luther League, and Bible studies. World Day of Prayer is scheduled at Reformed Church East Berlin on February 25 with Rev. Howard Fox as speaker.
Discharges from Carlisle Hospital include Mrs Luther Delp Gardners Jr 2 and Teresa Feiiers Gardners R 2 admitted. Mrs Beasley Coleman Warner remains a patient in Hanover Hospital after major operation. Born to Mr and Mrs George Marion Stiteel Gardners R 1 a daughter and to Mr and Mrs Dale L Jean Manse Myers Ida ville a daughter at Carlisle Hospital February 19. Mr and Mrs William Mewell York Springs welcomed a son born Saturday at Warner Hospital. Alfred Roy Delp will to Huntington Twp real estate to son Alfred M Delp Idaville and remainder to Odd Fellows lodge York Spring committee to plan Littlestown April event with Baltimore City and Carroll County Past Grands Association.
The three York Springs Lutheran parish churches sponsor Midweek Lenten services each Wednesday. Speakers include Rev. Dr. O. D. Coble February 23 and Rev. Dr. George E. Sheffer March 16, with other pastors to lead services in Chestnut Grove Lower Bermudian and Abbotts town through April 6 at York Springs and New Chester venues.
David McDonnell of Gettysburg has been awarded the general construction and plumbing contracts for a 35 by 40 foot rear annex to the Adams County Free Library on East High Street Gettysburg. The single story concrete block building will house a garage for the new bookmobile and provide needed work and storage space. General construction bid 98 368 and plumbing bid 9667. He was the low bidder among the offers received by the library board.
The family thanks relatives friends and neighbors for kininess shown after the death of Mrs. William H. Smith. They also thank for floral tributes expressions of sympathy and service of pallbearers.
Mrs Margaret E Bentzel 82, Hanover R 5, died at home after a week bedfast. Survived by husband William A Bentzel, two sons Herman and George, daughters in law Sevilla Scott and Lilie Laughman, and grandchildren. last of her family, member of EUB Church Green Springs. George H Laughman 66, Hanover R, died at Harrisburg Hospital, survived by wife Lilie G Laughman. Funeral Friday 10 am at Jackson and Worner Funeral Home Hanover with burial in Evergreen Cemetery Gettysburg.
Brownie Troop 46 in New Oxford held its first Investiture Service on February 15 at the old fire hall. The ceremony featured pledges and pins for 24 invested Brownies, with 4 members absent and to be invested later, led by Mrs. Clarence Lough Mrs. Richard Hoitry and Mrs. John Summers.

Miss Joan Sponseller of Hemminger's Rexall Drug Store received the Rexall Citation of Merit from Rexall Drug Company of Los Angeles for sincere enthusiasm and initiative. The New Oxford native, daughter of Mr and Mrs Paul Sponseller, is a 1953 high school graduate and has worked at Hemminger's nearly 20 months.
East Berlin moves into third place and Biglerville into fourth after a 43 37 win over Fairfield in Adams County Basketball League action. Littlestown and Newville face off Wednesday with Littlestown at Newville to follow the final seeds.
Captain George E. Sheffer son of Rev Dr and Mrs G E Sheffer of New Oxford arrives in Stuttgart joining the Seventh Army. He serves as assistant supply officer in the ordnance section and is a 196 graduate of West Point with Korea service. His wife Mary and three children accompany him.
The New Oxford World Day of Prayer Service will be held Friday evening Feb 25 at 7 20 at St Pauls Reformed Church. The service will be in charge of groups from each church in the community. The public is invited to participate in this annual world wide service.
A Ground Observer Corps meeting is planned this Friday at 28 p.m. at the Abbottstown Fire Hall to train current volunteers and recruit new ones. The event includes free movies and welcomes all attendees.
Patricia Ann Buffington and Donald James Seymour married in the Anunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church McSherrystown. The ceremony was conducted by Rev. Alexius F. Arnoldin with a reception for immediate families. The couple will live with the bride’s parents.
Petition day in the county shows two men seeking district attorney nominations on Republican and Democratic tickets. Daniel E. Teeter seeks renomination on the Democratic ticket and Donald G. Oyler seeks the Republican nomination. Teeter, a Gettysburg College and University of Pennsylvania Law School alumnus, has served as district attorney since 1948 after wartime service. Oyler, son of Mrs. R Z Oyler, is a Swarthmore College and Penn Law graduate, admitted to the bar in 1953, and served in the Army 1943 to 1945.
Ray M. Black of Gettysburg announces candidacy for Republican nomination for county registrar and recorder. A World War I veteran with 42 months service, he resides in Straban Township with wife Alma and daughter. Black is a carpenter with Rice and Wedman in Lancaster and member of VFW and American Legion.

A big stage show revue by Mize and the Ozark Play Boys plays Friday at the Colonial Hotel Hanover starting 9 pm.

The Sons of Veterans of New Oxford named Joseph I. Weaver as chairman with members Glenn Jacobs Leo Poist Charles Shrader Henry Carbaugh Cyril Stanb Richard Hockensmith John Herman Calvin Miller Robert Felty and Arthur Weaver to the Memorial Day Committee. Congressman James T. Quigley will deliver the Memorial Day address. The committee urges local patriotic and civil groups to assist with the parade and to inform chairman Weaver of their intentions.
