Staff Sergeant Russell L. Miller, a third Army infantryman from Green Springs, was slightly wounded January 30 in Luxembourg. A telegram from Adjutant General James A. Ulin to his parents confirms the wounding. Sgt Edward D Meckley aged about 24 is now a German prisoner after being reported missing over Austria December 6. He is a Liberator bomber crewman en route to base in Tiely after his eighth mission. Meckley enlisted February 1947 and served through training in multiple camps before going overseas last October. His brother Pred serves in the Army. He is son of Charles W Meckley of Abbottstown, raised by H E and Mrs. Shellenberger of Abbottstown.

Five Insurance Firms Sued Over Mt Pleasant Fire Losses
Ernest P Tharp and Mary V Tharp filed assumpsit suits in York County against five York County insurers for fire loss damages. The Tharps assigned any recovery to Hanover Trust Company and had promissory notes for 1000 dollars dated February 28 1944. Sheriff sale proceeds from two Mt Pleasant township properties totaling over 12000 dollars were distributed after sale to satisfy judgments. Pfc Carroll L Eckert son of Mrs Cora B Eckert and Squire E L Eckert is back in the states after a paratrooper unit in France suffered heavy losses while assaulting a slope and destroying 22 pillboxes. Lt Dick Spenser led a failed early assault, then ordered a pullback. A later two company attack toppled the hill. Eckert returned to Camp Upton after a 11 day furlough and hospital treatment in Staunton Virginia. he volunteered in 1942 and has been overseas since 1944, veteran of the Italian campaign.
