Mrs W R Snyder Carlisle street received word Saturday of the birth of a son to Captain and Mrs R C Lawes of Columbia Missouri. Various residents traveled, visited relatives, or attended community events including a Roosevelt Garner club card party and parish christenings.
The New Oxford Chamber of Commerce held its February meeting in the Borough Hall with Vice President Harry M. Miller presiding. Three new members Ruel Wolfe Allen Brashears and H B Miller were admitted totaling 58 members. The minutes were urged to record home rental postings at Auker's Drug Store and to note concerns about the unpaved Town Square roadway. The group also recommended Borough Council consider safety signs on highways for schoolchildren and discussed moving meetings to the first Wednesday.
Irishtown announces the birth of Bernard Henry Noel on February 10 to Bernard S Noel and his wife formerly Miss Sarah Elizabeth Rinehart. Local families report various illnesses including bronchitis grippe and confinement, with several recovering and returning to normal activity.
Employers in Pennsylvania must file reports and payments for the Unemployment Compensation Fund by February 28. The notice clarifies the act applies to any employer with one or more workers in 20 weeks of 1936, with several exemptions, and urges contacting the county supervisor for guidance.
Joseph A. Maguire deputy collector of internal revenue said the York office will provide filing help at the post office building on Thursday and the two following Thursdays February 25 and March 4 with C. A. Hershey assisting at the local internal revenue office.

Samuel Higinbotham, local jeweler of Hanover, accepted a Waltersdorf Furniture sub agency after attending the Frigidaire convention in Philadelphia where about 2,200 people were present. He will display Frigidaire appliances in his Center Square showroom. The item also notes community events and local notices.
Rumors that York Springs water was contaminated and could trigger a typhoid outbreak were proven groundless. P. H. Myers, borough council president, reported from the state health department that tests show the water is one hundred per cent pure. About 45 consumers had their lines shut off during the rumor period. Officials interviewed Harrisburg health officials confirmed the purity. On Wednesday the water company began restoring service to closed lines.
Among property transfers recorded today at the register and recorder office Catherine Gebhart and Littlestown National Bank as co administrators of the estate of the late Christian Gebhart sold 53 acres in Mt Pleasant township to Lester Baumgartner of Hanover.
J Willis Kerns Pennsylvania State College urged Adams County extension members to study European farming, especially Scandinavian methods, noting five areas of superiority including cooperation, education, land ownership patterns, farm management, and family solidarity. remarks capped the group’s twenty first annual meeting along with a one act comedy by the Mask and Wig club and re election of all directors.
A gray squirrel resident of Gettysburg uses a telephone cable from a tree on the Breidenbaugh property to travel through Carlisle street Center Square and Baltimore Street to the National cemetery. Citizens report it caches nuts in winter and returns an hour later with a nut. It sometimes detours along a Race Horse alley cable for extra exercise or food reconnaissance, even when the cable was icy a week or ten days ago.

The funeral of F Pierce Graff was held Thursday afternoon with services at West York led by Rev Paul Gladfelter of Abbottstown. Relatives served as pallbearers and interment was in Abbottstown cemetery. Mrs Herbert C Hendry and Mrs Rebecca Hendrix died in Shiremanstown aged 63. Hendrix was a Haar family member with surviving husband and children.
William H. Houseal aged 84 a former boatman on the Susquehanna River died Thursday at 7 a.m. at his home in York from a complication of diseases. He was a charter member of Camp No. 438 P O S of A Wrightsville. Survived by children Mrs. William McClain New Oxford Mrs. Harrison Garland Carlisle William and George Houseal Wrightsville Robert Houseal York Mrs. Russell Silar Long Level Raymond Houseal Fort Monroe Va and Mrs. Carrie Sloat at home. Twenty eight grandchildren and twenty eight great grandchildren also survive.
Mrs Mary Duttera 62 widow of Howard Duttera died at 3 30 Saturday morning at her son Lloyd Duttera's Detroit home after a long illness following a stroke six years ago She is survived by two children Ruth Dietz and Lloyd Duttera Both of Detroit and several Geiselman relatives in Gettysburg York and Chambersburg Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 pm from Etzweiler funeral home York with interment at Christchurch Cemetery near Littlestown
Infant Richard J Pascoe son of Grover and Mildred Pascoe of Hanover died Monday at 12 15 PM. Survived by parents, maternal grandparents Mr and Mrs Frank Zepp of Hanover, paternal grandparents Mr and Mrs Joseph Pascoe of McSherristown. Funeral conducted by Rev Dr Harry Hursh Beidleman of St Matthew's Lutheran Church, Hanover, Monday.
Funeral services for Ella K. Kemper 69, wife of Hugh Grant Kemper, were held Monday at 1 30 pm at the Edward Etzweller and Son funeral home York. Interment followed in Mt. Roose cemetery York. Survivors include her husband and children Mrs H E Squibb Cumberland MD Luther H Kemper Waynesboro Mrs Clarabelle Miller New Jersey Mrs Norma Katz and Mrs Emma Feder York and James Kemper Youngstown Ohio.

The Ushers' League of St Pauls Reformed Church announces its annual oyster supper for Saturday February 20. Plan to attend and enjoy the meal and fellowship.

Mrs Ruth Kessel of Gettysburg widow of Seymour Kessel sues Gettysburg Ice and Storage Co for damages after her husband was fatally struck by an ice truck on South Washington Street December 19. Ellsworth Woodward, her father, files the suit while attorney Ed ger Markley may file a statement of claim later.
A warrant was issued by Justice of the Peace John H. Basehore for the arrest of Ray E. Roth on a charge of giving a false address when applying for a hunting license. Roth allegedly listed Biglerville, the home of his parents, to obtain a resident license costing $2 while Washington, D C residents pay $15. He was notified to appear Feb 6 but failed, triggering the warrant issued Tuesday.
Clarence P. Smith of Hanover escaped injury after his sedan, new with 430 miles, was crushed when struck by a freight car at a Pennsylvania Railroad crossing in an Hanover alley. The train halted quickly. car towed to H. M. Sterner’s garage. Police gathered details as Smith stopped with the front over a siding where two freight cars were being moved.
No injuries occur when a car owned by Francis W. Kuhn of New Oxford runs out of control on an S turn between McSherrystown and Mt. Rock at 10:30 PM Saturday. The vehicle struck three fence posts. Donald Smith of Abbottstown rode with Kuhn. Kuhn had purchased the car Friday evening. Officer John P. Monaghan investigated from the Gettysburg patrol.
The county high school principals will gather this Wednesday evening for a dinner meeting at Beale's restaurant in Center Square. The session will be held in the high school building and will cover county forensic work among topics.
Five congregations failed to reach agreement on a successor to Rev. H. D. Houtz. Supply pastors will continue to serve the charge until another applicant is voted upon.
