New Oxford Area Chamber of Commerce held its annual meeting Tuesday evening in the borough office. Two new directors were elected Robert McEvers and Hilly Rife. Incumbents John Moore and William Zeigler were reelected. Charles Jacobs was named to fill the unexpired term of Paul Wagner. The board will reorganize in March to select officers.

Gerald T Gabrys of Delone Catholic High School won first in an essay contest on what handicapped workers contribute to the community. Senior students from local high schools entered eight essays. Torrential rains dumped over two inches on the area Saturday and Sunday flooding fields highways and cellars as drainage ditches failed. The State Highway Department warned of heavy flooding and emergency signs went up at Heidlersburg on RE 1. Conewago Creek ice jams forced water over route 91055 near East Berlin closing the road briefly. Firemen rescued a car with five occupants from water near Conewago Chapel after floods, with three feet depth, and pumps were used to clear cellars in New Oxford area. A Columbia Gas employee said furnaces were restarted after high water knocked them out of service.

Three Jailed For Burglary In York County Court
Three of five defendants from New Oxford and Hanover pled guilty to burglary and larceny charges and were sentenced Monday by President Judge George W. Atkins in York County Court. Sheldon E. Kinefelter drew two to five years, Paul Grove received an indeterminate Camp Hill sentence, and Michael F. Storm also went to Camp Hill. Harry S. McMaster, William G. Felts, and two others received shorter terms. The case stems from last month s thefts involving a vending machine, coin changer, and pay telephone.
