Twenty one county men were notified they must report for induction into the armed forces. The selective service board did not release names, pending satire issuance and final quota decision. Most called are married. some from January exams and prior months will undergo a new physical at Harrisburg before joining the forces. The group, among the largest in months, leaves at 7 o clock.
A series of local wedding notices: Baker and Myers wed in Liver Run with a ring ceremony at St. Marys Lutheran Church. Jacoby and Wisner married in Hanover Grace Reformed Church with a double ring rite. McDonnell and Hansford wed in Westminster Church Hanover, and Little and Exhara tied the knot in Sherrystown Annunciation church. Each couple plans to reside with families or return to their homes after brief honeymoons.

Adams County Republicans held the Lincoln Day dinner at the Gettysburg Hotel with guests from York Dauphin and other counties. United States Senator Edward Martin and Goldie Shears spoke as the crowd set a record attendance, with a piano and choir opening and Rev. Dr. Ralph R. Gresh delivering the invocation.
Brader Rezenthal of Dover charged with disorderly conduct in East Berlin borough. jailed and fined 25.50. Gibbas of Baltimore arrested by state patrol for improper pass. paid 810.00 and costs. William J. Abbott of Newport charged with operating an overloaded truck. paid 30.00 fine.
A special meeting of the New Oxford Community Fire Company is set for Wednesday evening February 20 at 8 o clock.
New Oxford junior Pie Champ Dors Mier placed high in Adams County in the state cherry he bekins contest at Cargle High School Saturday. Miss Milar, daughter of Mr and Mrs Z Millar of New Oxford RL 2, won the county title at Gettygh School on Monday after a State Appie Fansmmonky on two hours.
Jones and Wight announce a John Deere program set for February 18 at the alts school auditorium. The free event starts at 7 oclock with displays of farm implements and a film show. Tom Gordon will present oddities in farming and other Johnny Deere related topics. Farmers may obtain tickets from Scot, the local Deere sales rep.
Francis Eugene Torver six year old son of Mr and Mrs Charles J Topper suffered a compound fracture of the left leg and facial abrasions when struck by a car driven by G Smith south of New Oxford. He stood awaiting a school bus on the western roadside. Police investigated. He was taken to Dr J C Menges and later to Warmer Hospital.
Squire Straley's Court reports multiple arrests including Benneth L Baubliz of Wakiut Street Hanover for speeding, Lewis Ankrey of New Oxford accused of driving too fast, and a state patrol action against overloading on Feb 12. An inquest into the death of Miss Laverne Croft, 37, will be held Monday at 3:09 PM in the courthouse. She died at the scene when a car on Route 94 left the road near Hampton, overturning after a collision with a truck driven by Roland Hesy Crom, 39, of Spring Grove R. 3. Crom was hospitalized with serious injuries. Police reported the vehicle loss control on a curve and estimated damage at $300. Roy W. Wentz founder and proprietor said the Wertz furniture store observed its birth anniversary on a Saturday. He noted some visitors were among the first customers when the store opened on February 9, 1852.
Francis Wattertimore 799n ship York Springs R. C. filed his nominating petition Monday with the state elections bureau in Harrisburg to run as a Republican candidate for representative in the General Assembly.
Glenn Jacobs president of the Adams county road supervisors association urged township supervisors to take the loyalty oath required by a new law by March 1. Forms may be bought for two cents from the Pennsylvania Township News in Harrisburg. Jacobs and others returned from a three day state association convention in Philadelphia.
J. D. Lippy Jr announces his candidacy for the Democratic nomination as assemblyman from Adams county. A native of Gettysburg he runs the Lincoln Room museum and gift shop and the Dobbin house and Theddeus Stevens blacksmith shop at Caledonia Iron Works in Caledonia State Park. He is also a magician who has performed at numerous public events.
Charles Bowser of Abbottstown was sentenced to ten days in jail in default of $10 on a disorderly conduct charge. Gettysburg Police brought the case before Justice of the Peace John E Basehore. The complaint previously dated his name as George Bowser.
Local churches announce roasts bake sales and card parties this weekend in Abbottstown and New Oxford. St John’s Ladies and St Paul’s Mite society host events. the New Oxford Fire Hall hosts a big party and a Valentine fundraiser. A turkey supper in Eas Berlin and a June carnival by the New Oxford Fire Company are noted with dates and prices.
