Death by Own Action Shocks Two Taverns Farm Family
William J. Eckenrode, a 52 year old farmer near Two Taverns, died by hanging early Tuesday after a nervous breakdown sparked by the destruction of his barn. The barn collapsed from heavy snow, burying farm products. his son John found the body after the shed roof gave way. Eckenrode, not in robust health, had expressed intent to work in the barn shortly before the collapse but was detained. He leaves a wife Kate Olthoff, three sons, a daughter, two brothers, and four sisters. Funeral is Friday at 9:30 from St Francis Xavier church Gettysburg with burial in the Catholic cemetery.
