New Oxford borough council met at the Fire Hall and approved a tentative budget for next year. The general fund stands near 18000 dollars, the water budget about 12000 dollars up 500. The final budget and tax rate will be set at the March meeting. The water increase reflects higher usage in the borough.

New Oxford Fire Co to buy a new truck
The New Oxford Fire Company paid all debts on its new building and plans a mortgage burning later. It will let bids soon for a new fire truck. In 1954 the ambulance made 108 calls traveling 3,250 miles to Philadelphia and Hanover. The fire school starts Tuesday February 15 at 7 p.m. in the engine house with registration urged.

Fatally Burned By Kerosene Stove In New Oxford
Mrs. Elizabeth Berkheimer, 81, was burned to death Wednesday afternoon in her home at 108 East High Street New Oxford when her clothing ignited as she filled a kerosene stove. Neighbors summoned help and firemen found her body after breaking into the residence. Mrs. Byers who heard noises and called Mamie could not enter. coroner Dr. C G Crist and Trooper David James attended the inquest at the courthouse and later went to New Oxford.
