Two Women Die After Crash Near Gettysburg
Two Emmitsburg women died after a Saturday morning crash south of Gettysburg on the Emmitsburg road. Ruth Pitez and Ruth Kump suffered brutal skull fractures and internal injuries. Kump also had a fractured thigh. Coroner C G Crist to hold inquest Friday at 3 30 PM. drivers said they were blinded by opposing headlights.

New Oxford Voters Keep Borough Tax Rate at 8 Mills

Charles E. Livingston 68, of York Springs R D 2, died Saturday at Hanover hospital after a 16 day illness. Frank A. Newell 64 of Hunterstown died Tuesday at home from complications. William J. Maxwell formerly of Kohler's schoolhouse area died Friday in Martinsburg W V. Daniel M. Harbold 85 of Dover died Friday night at Krout Convalescent Home. Mrs Ellen H Sipling 73 of Hanover died Monday afternoon at home. Interments and funeral arrangements follow in local churches and cemeteries.

N C soldier Pfc Charles E Wiles, 21, of Hanover Street now in Oxford, enrolled as a Sheet Metal Drafting student at the Warton American Technical School in England. He is among 4000 soldiers in the eight week session, with over 2000 graduates from the first term. Wiles entered service in March 1943 and went overseas in November 1944. The school, led by Col Albert E Billing, aims to reacquaint soldiers with techniques and machinery they will use in civilian trades. Wiles' wife Pauline resides with her grandparents Mr and Mrs Charles Rinehart.

Warren Hoover McSherristown guard at Letterkenny Ordinance Depot from August 1942 to January 8 1946 pleaded guilty in Franklin County Court to receiving stolen goods. He was fined 100 dollars and ordered to pay prosecution costs after admitting intent to borrow a drill later claimed government ownership. Garnet Piper of Chambersburg, who was linked to the theft, had pleaded guilty to larceny.

Fire destroys potato chip factory and church barn in Hanover
A blaze early Sunday destroyed a potato chip factory at 231 Baltimore Street owned by P. I. Wentz and the barn behind St. Pauls Lutheran church parsonage at 731 Baltimore Street. The pastor Rev. Paul L. Poulk’s automobile was saved. chickens perished in the fire.
