Allen Brashears resigns as borough engineer effective March 1 and will be succeeded by Isaac Chary. The town notes numerous local movements births and events including a 78th birthday celebration and a variety of social visits and church activities.
Samuel R. Bair of Hanover R D 4 retires after 34 years with the post office. He started on rural routes in 1882, became a temporary rural carrier on route 5 in 1916, then regular on the same route in 1917, later shifted to a regular clerk in 1919 and has served 29 years in that role. A banquet by the Hanover chapter of the federation of post office clubs honored his service with a pen and pencil set and a lapel pin marking 34 years.
Multiple wedding notices from Harrisburg to Philadelphia detail Moore Schultz in New Oxford and Smith Lawrence in McSherrystown, with brides Mary Shultz and Elizabeth Smith. The couples wed at Immaculate Conception and Church of the Annunciation, then celebrated at local venues. Grooms’ and brides’ backgrounds include education, military service, and public employment.

Paul Walker of Chambersburg aims to be delegate to the Republican National Convention from the 21st district covering Adams Franklin and York counties with primary on April 27. George W. Baker of Abbottstown seeks the alternate slot. Petitions circulate after February 7.
Paul S. Smith formerly of Perry county is named manager of the Adams County Egg Co oper ative succeeding Lawrence Rice. Peggy Ann Smith of Gettysburg is named secretary to the new manager. The co op moves eggs with the Farm Bureau Federation following expiration of a contract with Nearby Sales agency New York.

New Oxford Public Schools announces students who were neither absent nor tardy in January. The list includes grades 1 and 2 pupils like Harold Elder and Pamela Alwine with teachers Miss Geisler and Miss Sponseller. grades 3 and 4 names such as Eugene Kay Kendall and Jan Sponseller. grades 5 and 6 pupils including John Haverstick and Norman Humbert. section 71 homeroom class members listed with several names.
Ead Ensor of Hampton was apprehended January 28 for parking too close to a fire hydrant on Lincolnway West. Information was laid against Howard W. Keller of Hanover for the same offense. Irvin B. Mumnert of East Berlin was apprehended January 29 for parking too close to a fire hydrant. Clarence M. Ford of New Oxford was arrested January 31 for leaving his motor running. All arrests were made by Chief of Police E. L. McNabe of New Oxford borough.
Three automobiles were damaged in a collision in Biglerville on January 28. Lester Eugene Hoover of New Oxford was alighting from his car when Lt. Robert A. Webster Jr. struck Hoover’s door and slid into a truck driven by Samuel H. Helsley Jr. Police continued the investigation.
Miss Margaret Elizabeth Sachs of Wilmington will marry William White of Wilmington on February 14 at 4 30 p m in Our Lady's Chapel Cathedral of St John. A reception follows at the University Club. Doctor Sachs is a son of the late Mr and Mrs Edward Peter Sachs of Gettysburg. The bride is granddaughter of W E Wilson of Wilmington formerly of New Oxford.
Frank Zinn of New Oxford was jailed in Adams county on disorderly conduct charges. Chief Earl L. McNab escorted him to jail. he was released Monday for a hearing before Justice S. Straley. Zinn pleaded guilty and paid fines and costs.
Clarence Smith of Gettysburg declared his bid for the Republican state committee. Frank Slonaker, current Adams County state committeeman, was elected two years ago. Smith has served as clerk of the Adams County Commissioners for six years.
The Hanover area reports several deaths including Mrs. Alice M. Weaver 62 of Hanover from a heart condition. Mrs. Walter J. Albert 48 of Westminster from a heart condition. Charles Henry Kreut 64 near Dispute from complications of disease. Mrs Ida Rebecca Byron 73 of Carlisle died in Carlisle Hospital. Surviving family members and funeral details listed. Funeral services set for the week with interments in local cemeteries.
Frank and Mary Liversberger and others sold to Guy G. and Kathryn Smith in Oxford and Conewago townships Edge Grove. Raymond A Eckard and Mean P Eckard sold to Dale L Gerber and Wandalee Gerber in McSherrystown for a north side South Street property.
Mr and Mrs Mark Krepps of McSherrystown entertained Hanover Cut Rate Shoe Store employees at a turkey dinner Sunday. Guests included Russell Cramer Mary Louise Groft Jean Hagerman Barbara Hagerman Kathleen Sanders and other Krepps family members.
A public card party is set for Tuesday February 10 at 8 15 P M in the basement of St Marys Catholic church near Abbottstown. Refreshments will be on sale.
The New Oxford Owls host the Mt Union quintet from Alt Union in a Saturday night Central Tri-County League clash on their home floor. Mt Union features P Holesa center and forwards Wo Rumberger J Giacobella among others. The Owls Reserves meet East Berlin Veterans of Foreign Wars Reserves in the preliminary game at 7 30 p m.
New Oxford Junior Senior High announces first semester honor roll. Students across grades 7 through 12 are recognized for academic achievement, including Joyce Guise Janet Hankey Sally Keith Larry Laughman and more.
Henry T. Bream was elected president of the Adams County Shrine club at a Thursday dinner meeting in Gettysburg. Glenn L. Bream and Sydney J. Poppay were named first and second vice presidents, with Charles W. Myers re-elected treasurer and W. Preston Hull secretary. Six new directors include John D. Teeter Kenneth P. Hull S. Lester Scott Samuel Higinbotham Nevaeh A. Crouse Hubert B. Flaherty. About 100 members attended the turkey dinner and entertainment by Canfield Smith Snodgrass Arno the magician and Paul Nolan.
New Oxford public schools pupils contributed 5133 to the March of Dimes with entries by grades and homeroom teachers including Miss Gessler, Miss Sponselter, Miss Hulick, Mr Moul, Miss Moul, Mr Kratzert, Mr Comerer, Mrs Arnold, Mr Taylor, Mrs Cook, Miss Taylor and Mr Bowen. J. Richard Hagerman of McSherstown has become Superintendent of the Hanover district for All-States Life Insurance. The promotion was announced at a New Central hotel dinner with T. J. Mohan noting the office has become a full district unit due to rising business. A vacancy will be filled soon and two more agents are to be added. Attendees included Hagerman, Mohan, and several company officials.

The New Oxford high school debuted its new automatic timer for athletic events during Friday’s Biglerville game. Funded by a $100 Class of 1944 gift, sales campaign profits, and candy sale proceeds, the timer arrived with a December delivery delay due to a missing twelve wire cable and was installed on Thursday.
