Geraldine Goulse Lawrence and Francis Lloyd Sanders wed at St Joseph's Hanover in a nuptial mass with a small family attendance. The couple, both employed by Cannon Shoe Co., will reside at 33 Main Street McSherrystown. Frances Nadine Lawrence and Francis Edgar Livelsberger also united in marriage at McSherrystown Church of the Annunciation. The bride is a Lawrence of Hanover R D 4. the groom, from Wrightsville, was supported by his brother as best man.
Raymond Long visits family in Hanover after week end in Norfolk Naval Station. John R. Wagner joins Dade Daydock Co. in Miami. Miss Mabel E. Grenoble proprietor of the Grenoble Gift Shop Gettysburg died suddenly at Annie M. Warner hospital from a pulmonary embolism. She had been improving after an intestinal operation and had asked for tea before dying. Survived by brother Winfield Grenoble a niece and a half sister. Funeral plans pending arrival of her brother.
About 400 people attended the Birthday Ball at Hotel Gettysburg on Tuesday. Proceeds go to the Infantile Paralysis Fund. County chair Mrs. Joseph E. Codoff announced seven new sponsors bringing total to 189. New sponsors include Dr. and Mrs. H M Hartman, Dr. W R Cade, Henry Sokolsky, Robert Watson, E. Stoner, Mrs. E C Livingston and Dale's Tire Shop. March of Dimes campaign extended to February 15 due to weather.

Mrs. Clara M. Martin 76, Irishtown R 1, died Wednesday from a heart condition. Survived by husband John M. Martin, two children, eight grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, funeral at Conewago Chapel. Mrs. Leila D. Whited 85,Gettysburg R 4, died Saturday at Warner hospital after a stroke. Survived by husband Evra G. Whited, a son and a daughter, two grandchildren and several siblings. funeral at Bender funeral home with interment at New Oxford cemetery.
Sister M Bernadette of the Sisters of St Joseph died Wednesday evening at St Joseph's academy in McSherrystown. Born September 7, 1863, she joined the order in 1884 and lived her life at the academy. Funeral with high requiem mass Friday at 9 in the academy chapel, interment there. Pallbearers named Krepps nephews. Examinations for Letterkenny Ordnance Depot positions to be held next Wednesday at 7 pm in Chambersburg. Pay ranges begin 1560 to 1732 yearly for a 48 hour week. Isaac W Wolf aged 74 of York Haven died Thursday night at 9 55 after a months illness at his home. He was born in Adams county son of the late Josiah and Maria Wolf and lived in York Haven 38 years. Survived by wife Emma Miller Wolf seven children one brother John B Wolf Biglerville and one sister Mrs Harry Roth Gettysburg.
Rev Robert D Hartnett of St Marys Catholic Church New Oxford announced a 730 am mass with candle blessing prior. Holy Communion distribution for absentees will occur. Monthly Holy Hour Friday 739 pm and Feast of St Blase on Saturday February 3 with annual blessing of throats at 7 pm.
The will of the late Mrs. Sarah E. Cover of Gettysburg was entered for probate at the register and recorder’s office on Tuesday afternoon. A petition to appoint administrators for the estate, valued at about 2500 in personal property with no real estate, was filed by Carl D. and Mildred Walter of Harrisburg.
A U S Marine Corps discharge was recorded for Pfc Rubin Philip Zepp of Littlestown R F D 2 He enlisted September 3 1943 in Baltimore served until November 13 1944 at Parris Island S C He was promoted to private first class on April 10 and earned a rifled marksmanship rating November 16 1943 while training He served as an airplane armorer before discharge.

Cub Pack 85 of New Oxford met in the high school auditorium on Sunday afternoon with Cub Master J. L. Kratzert presiding. Den 1 had 33 members, Den 2 had 25, and two visitors attended, the Rev. George E. Sheffer and Miss Jeanette Hildebrand.
A school bus carrying 30 students to New Oxford high school collided with a milk truck on the Lincoln highway two miles east of New Oxford. One 15 year old pupil Charles Harmon sustained brush burns but returned to class after treatment. Police say the milk truck in following traffic skidded into the bus rear as the bus slowed. Damages totaled about 35 dollars.
In Canton fifty years ago a reader recalls a childhood in New Oxford, mentions sites near the Catholic cemetery and prominent shops and families such as Himes Emmerts Schnell Barnitz Cashman Klinger Swartz and Dr Hendricks. A Tuesday evening blaze at the Robinsons Robin son poultry farm southwest of New Oxford destroyed three buildings including a 200 by 85 foot chicken house. About 15,000 dollars in damages, no cause given, insurance coverage noted. Fire departments from five towns battled to douse the flames.
Burgess Guy Klinger appeals to all electricity users to conserve until the government issued brownout edict is lifted. The edict begins at midnight and calls on consumers with outside displays to follow fuel‑saving rules as a wartime contribution.
