Waynesboro faces a sharp drop in attendance as 242 of 1165 pupils are admitted under compulsory vaccination rules. High school 25 of 99 and primary schools 51 of 454 attend amid protests including a procession burning the health commissioner’s effigy.
A lamp explosion in the sitting room caused a fatal blaze at the Marstellar residence near New Park in Flopewell township York county. Mrs Marstellar and six of nine children escaped as the house burned to the ground while the father and three children were away at church.
Alfred Miller 18 died after striking a hotel punching bag in Windsor village York county. Skull fracture led to unconsciousness and death. Police consider murder possible. coroner notes blows from unknown person. Proprieter Abel Hildebrand and Warry Sultzer arrested for liquor and license offenses. district attorney to pursue further arrests.
A broken rail toppled three steel rail cars into a ditch near Wanover at 9 AM Monday. The caboose front left the track but the flagman escaped injury. Traffic delayed as east and west trains transferred passengers. a temporary track allowed the York service to pass at 3:15 PM. Hagerstown wrecking crew called in to clear debris.

Harry Williams 24, son of Mr and Mrs Jesse Williams, living near Dallastown, hanged himself in his father’s barn Sunday afternoon. He had been missing since the afternoon and was found about 5 30 p m attached to a rope from a rafter, feet three feet from the floor. Williams, employed by J W Minnich as a cigarmaker, had suffered in recent years and had previously been badly injured jumping from a trolley car nearby. Early reports say he was somewhat weak minded, a factor in his death by his own action.
