Opposes Taking Home Rule From Townships Convention Opens

Township supervisors and officials gathered at the Cumberland courthouse for the nineteenth annual convention of the supervisors association. John H. Knox presided, Clayton Brarner named presiding officer, and Rev. Dr. Ludwig C. Mortensen gave the invocation. H A Thomson argued against centralization and a 10 million real estate tax cap, warning it would cripple local government and schools. He urged opposing diversion of motor license funds and direct state aid to townships, linking past arrears to continued resistance to state road takeovers. Afternoon program listed resolutions and nominations, with WH G Van Riper scheduled to speak on highway issues and officers to be elected as the session closes.
