Under Sherman Krall, Charles Fahs and John Phillips, the East Berlin Lions Club has placed Christmas lights in the borough square and surrounding streets with plans to expand annually. Charles Spangler announced Christmas tree sales starting December 12 at the Firestone Store on E King St. Wayne Lau reports the fruit cake sale is progressing, run by two teams with a gold team led by Lau. Krall is the high salesman.

UNICEF Trick or Treat Drive Raises $1476 in Adams County
About 1,500 children mainly sixth graders collected 1476.96 for UNICEF during Halloween surpassing last year’s total by nearly 200 and expanding canvass across the county. The Oxford Township Board of Supervisors met November 2 at 7 30 p m with Lester Rider presiding. New Oxford FHA Holds Meeting
The New Oxford FHA held a December meeting in the high school home economics room. The president opened the session and the creed was recited by members. East Berlin approves final contract for street construction
East Berlin borough council approved the final state contract for rebuilding East and West King Abbottstown Streets. The plan covers 48 foot wide roads with crushed base and bituminous surface plus 1.97 miles of concrete curbing. Total cost near 460000 dollars with borough share about 90000. The state to construct curbing and borough bills owners two thirds after construction and one third after two years.

Samuel George Spangler 83 of 112 York Street, retired manufacturer and longtime president of The Times and News Publishing Company Gettysburg, died Wednesday at 10 30 am in Warner Hospital. He founded Oyler and Spangler in 1900 making fertilizers and seeds, helped organize the Central Chemical Company, served as director at First National Bank, aided Lincoln Trust, and led The Times and News from 1923. Funeral at Bender Funeral Home Saturday at 2 pm with Rev. Paul L. Reaser. interment Evergreen Cemetery. Public viewing Friday 7 to 9 pm.
