Roy V. Rank 40 of Reading township confessed at the Gettysburg substation that his report of being held up and robbed of 86 dollars by a hitch-hiker north of Cross Keys Tuesday night was a hoax. He had claimed a car theft as well, then hid the loss from his wife by fabricating the incident. He led police to the abandoned vehicle found near the old Quaker meeting house two miles south of York Springs. Police blocked highways statewide after Rank reported the assault following a Hanover trip.
Miss Marie Evelyn Baker and Elwood Snyder Alleman united in marriage at St Peter's Lutheran church Newville with the double ring ceremony. Bride employed by L A Beaudin Shoe Co. A marriage license was issued at the courthouse on Wednesday to Grier LaVerne Keilholtz of Keymar Maryland and Bessie Marie Good of Littlestown Pennsylvania. A 10 year old, Phyllis Cleveland, sustained a minor fracture of her right collar bone while playing at school and was treated at Warner hospital. The Farmers and Merchants Bank will be closed on Good Friday with local ads for children's coats and Easter candies from Gettysburg and New Oxford merchants.

The Irishtown Fire Company stages the farce Amazing Gracie in the Firemen's hall April 20 21 22 directed by George A. Martin. Cast includes Farina Fudd Loretta Smith Rainbow Batts Mary Staub Ty Underwood Barbara Martin Dodie Spicer Mrs Spicer Butch Briscoe Darius Damrock George Riser Horatio Helfrey Miss Talulah Tate and more. A lively three act comedy promises strong laughs and a riotous climax.
Obituaries from Hanover and McSherrystown report the deaths of Mrs. Gertrude Hartzell Mummert 68 wife of Charles H. Mummert of East Berlin with service at W. A. Feiser funeral home Carlisle Street and Mt. Olivet cemetery. Also listed are Mrs Amelia Keffer 75 of McSherrystown and Mr A C Rice 7:30 p.m. Thursday April 7 with requiem mass at the Church of the Annunciation. Burial in parish cemetery.
The body of Pyt. Samuel Ediar Spanier 34 infantryman son of Mrs Laura B Spaneler 233 South Street Hanover formerly of Limestown R and the late Rush D Spangler arrived in York from Brooklyn. He died August 25 1944 in France of wounds in action. A service will be held Saturday at 2 pm in the W A Feiser funeral home Hanover with Rev John C Brumbach officiating and interment in Mt Oliver cemetery. Military rites at the grave will be provided by Harold H Ball Post No 14 American Legion. Friends may call Friday evening. flowers omitted as requested.
New Oxford will start mail delivery on April 18 with morning and afternoon routes daily except Saturday and Sunday. M Lord M Bower named postmistress. Jack Smith to serve as auxiliary carrier. Residents urged to provide curbside boxes or door slots and display house numbers before service begins.
The Heidlersburg United Brethren church completes a parish house project and plans a series of services. April 24 at 2 30 p m is the dedication with Rev Dr Clyde W Meadows and Rev Dale E Kline officiating. A Youth for Christ service April 30 features evangelists Bit Rice and Dr John Rice.
Walter Kuhn 22 of Gettysburg Route 5 was treated for a shock and slight burn after touching a water pipe while attempting to start an overhead fan at Littlestown Hardware and Foundry. He was taken to Warner Hospital by Littlestown ambulance. The day also marked Mr and Mrs George S Wildasin of Alburtstown celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary with a family gathering hosted by Mrs Fannie Thomas.

A Sunday evening program at St Pauls Evangelical Reformed Church New Oxford drew a capacity audience. The event featured Robert Brothers invocation and Doxology, the St Pauls Men's Chorus, soloists and choirs with hymns such as The Old Rugged Cross Crown Him Lord and The Palms. The program included offertory pieces and selections by Keith Wilson Gable Knapps and Em manu Calvary.

The New Oxford Fire Company held a Wednesday meeting with 19 members present. Applications for new members were referred to an investigating committee. The group approved changes to payment procedures and authorized a telephone extension bell at Carvin Miller’s home. Four fires were reported in March.
At St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Hampton Samuel M Clarke pastor received twelve members from the confirmation class via adult baptism and confirmation. Irishtown Fire company stages Amazing Gracie a three act laush riot at the firemen hall April 20 21 and 22. The Conewago Chapel spring party follows at Irishtown school hall Wednesday April 27 with cards games and refreshments. Bus service will be provided to the hall.
