Oil exploration stalls in New Mexico statewide
In New Mexico oil drilling proceeds cautiously as companies test promising structures rather than push for a rush. No contingency exists for handling accidental flow, rail capacity is limited, and production depends on definitive drill results. Multiple wells are advancing across Quay and Union counties, with several rigs active and promising formations noted.

Increased Oil Rates Spark Local Discontent and Action
Dissatisfaction grows over a San Francisco District Freight Traffic Committee approval of oil rate hikes from Texas and Oklahoma to southern New Mexico and Arizona. Hearings were held September 4 with no notice to interested parties. El Paso Chamber of Commerce and O A Tadlock seek state commission intervention to block the rise, defending California oil replacing Texas oil with an asphalt base. Lordsburg’s "85" mine has already raised the issue with the commission and steps to oppose the increase are planned.

He notes identical rates to Lordsboro and Clifton, seventy miles apart, but a charge of 616 cents per hundred pounds from Lordsboro to the mine three and a half miles away. The mine board hauled mining timbers at Clifton, costing about $3124 or 44 cents per hundred pounds, prompting the commission to act with the Arizona commission and the El Paso Chamber of Commerce traffic department.
