Jerome Arizona June 2 Sheriff Joe Young and twenty five a day in cargo of the United Verde mine workers. The first day of the strike passed without disorder. Union leaders claimed most mines are closed save the Us Verde Bed. The former all but 200 of the 1,100 men regularly employed were out. At a mass meeting leaders were understood to favor accepting an offer of an increased wage scale.

June 6 The Reputy Publicity Association quotes 'Reinisch Westpractische Zeitung' warning against a British imperial customs union and a German trade threat. The piece argues the United States will act independently in commercial policy, pursue tariffs to favor Made in America, subsidize shipping, regulate big corporations, and maintain national independence from entangling alliances.
Washington June 6 The Republican Publicity Association released a statement at its Washington headquarters. It criticizes Don C Seitz chairman of the committee on postal rates of the American Newspaper Publishers Association for remarks on second class postage. The missive questions his motives and labels the Post Office Department as biased toward the current administration while noting Seitz is aligned with the New York World. It argues the department is unfair to railroads and parcel post despite past criticisms.
Mr Charles Springer of the Council of Defense left for Albuquerque at the governor Lindsey's request to plan and start the new buildings for the New Mexico National Guards. The entire regiment and the battery will be mobilized there once quarters are ready and given further training.
Miss Wilma D. Evans, leader of the Boys and Girls club at Raton, has been appointed by the State College of Agriculture as lecturer and demonstrator in charge of the food conservation program for Colfax and Union counties. She will visit communities to educate housekeepers on effective conservation methods while coordinating domestic science work at the County High School in cooperation with the State Council of Defense.
A dance at Mentmore near Gallup ended in a fatal stabbing and shooting. Pedro Hernandez died from knife wounds after a fight with Jose Maria Sanchez who was shot by the uncle of Hernandez. Sanchez is wounded and faces murder charges.
Ex governor L Bradford Prince spoke at Flushing High School New York before more than 1000 attendees on Memorial Day. He praised Civil War heroes and denied that conscripts won the war, citing 3100 drafted from New York’s 465000 volunteers. He called the Civil War a global trial of free government and republican institutions and was cheered.
The Santa Fe de Luxe Train completed its season with a flawless on time record across 2219 miles. Westbound service from Chicago to California ran January 2 to March 20, while eastbound trips ran February 20 to May 1. Weather could not disrupt the schedule despite heavy tourist travel and extra train sections.
Registration Day opened in the capital with bells and a fire whistle. About 424 citizens signed up at tour registration points, surpassing prior estimates. A large parade followed from Catron school grounds to the Plaza with speeches by Governor Lindsey and Adjutant General Baca, and civic organizations joining in.
The Knights of Columbus held a large meeting last Sunday conferring the first three degrees on about thirty candidates. Participants included Knights from Albuquerque and other cities, with 150 to 200 in the parade, and several new members listed from Chamita and Del Rito among others.
Two train loads of cattle were shipped from the county to Montana for fattening and market. A third load was planned to follow within a week, with T. P. Tale directing the movements.
