New Mexico’s quota of men for the United States army under the recent act totals 2422. County apportionment by federal disbursing officer BC Reid shows Arriba 179 and Roosevelt 22, while Eddy and Luna counties are excluded as they already exceeded their quotas. McKinley County nearly met its target, lacking one volunteer to avoid draft.
The Roswell News reports nearly 10 000 students in 241 rural schools across New Mexico participated in patriotic exercises last February including readings plays and flag drills. Total visitors reached 11 100 with 4 program numbers presented and 11 195 19 sent to the Red Cross along with pledged funds to come in later.

The Palmilla Fiber Co of Tucumcari aims to have its Bear Grass fiber factory running by December. The unit is expected to produce one to two cars per week, using abundant county bear grass. Prices paid will range from five to nine dollars per ton.
