Old Curio Shop in Santa Fe Noted Trading Post
The Original Old Curio Store on San Francisco Street, Santa Fe, operated by J. B. Candelario, claims 1603 origins and ranks as one of the oldest mercantile houses in the United States. The adobe building houses a vast collection of Indian goods, blankets from Navajo, Balleta, and Chimayo tribes, and a Spanish Carreta on the roof. The stock highlights authentic Indian blankets and distinguishes them from machine made copies. A large visitor register records signatures from notable figures like Theodore Roosevelt, Charles Elliott, Taft, and Bryan, among others, with entries praising the shop’s significance.
