Arizona voters face 14 statewide propositions this November with eight amendments to the state constitution. Proposition 100 would reserve about 270000 acres of state owned public school trust land for conservation uses and allow longer grazing leases and land swaps. Proposition 101 modernizes militia terms to capable citizens aged 18 to 45. The presentation occurred at JFort Defiance with voter outreach efforts by Alberto Qlivas. Betsey Bayless could not attend. Adults registering by October 9 can vote.
McKinley County Sheriff and New Mexico State Police urge livestock owners to contain cows bulls horses and sheep to prevent fatal crashes and property damage on roads south of Gallup near State Road 602 and Jones Ranch Road. Officers report night grazing and feuding families releasing animals, with drivers at 55 mph unable to stop in time.
Special to the lepender reports the Hopi Health Department finished another summer of the 100 Mile Walk with 880 participants, about 480 completing the full distance. The program, extended to all entrants, stressed circulation, stress relief, diabetes and obesity prevention, diet education, and increased energy.
The EPA authorized a pilot cleanup system at Tuba City Thriftway to remove gasoline contamination from soil and groundwater. Installed near Highways 160 and 264, the process pumps air into ground bubbles gasoline into surface extraction. Progress will be monitored for 90 days with potential expansion to SunWest and Tuba City Truck Stop, a plan spanning three to five years.
