Zoo Boo Draws Largest Crowd on Navajo Nation

Oct weather brought clear skies as the annual Zoo Boo drew the biggest turnout. Families, children in costumes enjoyed games face painting music bead making a 40 costume contest and animals. Navajo Nation President Ben Shelly attended to announce plans for an eagle aviary at the zoo.

Gallup Halloween events and contests advertise prizes

Masayesva urges SMCRA use to shield Navajo aquifer

Hopi Tribe officials and Black Mesa Trust cite Vernon Masayesva calling on the 1977 Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act to protect the Navajo aquifer from Peabody Western Coal operations. He says groundwater pumping weakens water pressure, drying springs, while Hopi Chairman LeRoy Shin-goiewa notes Black Mesa is sacred and the mine employs many locals.

Gallup UNM North campus boosts GED success rate

Laura Jijon leads UNM Gallup north campus on Seventh Street where 100 percent of 2010 11 GED students passed. ABE aims for 60 percent GED pass rate statewide. The campus offers eight week GED prep courses and semester English Math and college skills classes taught by eight instructors across three locations.
