SHIPROCK AP A group of American Indian veterans challenges New Mexico Tax and Revenue Department estimates of personal income tax refunds withheld during service from 1977 through 2004. Leaders claim refunds may total up to 20 million dollars for about 7,000 veterans, while a taskforce expands the potential figure to 300 million for about 15,000 veterans from 1942 to 2004.

Feathers Gathered From Tribes Under Federal Rules

Woman Struck and Killed Crossing I-40 Near Sun Dance Area
A young unidentified Native American woman in her late teens to early twenties was hit and killed by a tractor trailer on Interstate 40 near mile marker 29 in the Sun dance Churchrock area of McKinley County. The driver reported seeing her standing in the eastbound lane before impact around 3:45 a.m. Monday. Fingerprint tests found no match. she wore a black 2pac pullover and blue Converse All-Star sneakers. The driver was questioned and released.
