After years of planning and a multi million investment, New Mexico Highway 264 linking Gallup to Window Rock is completed. Navajo Nation leaders and state officials spoke of safety and cooperation as a Navajo blessing opened the ceremony, followed by a ribbon cutting and a community barbecue.
Dine Bureau WINDOW ROCK Arizona The Navajo Tribal Council authorized the Board of Election Supervisors to run the general election while a board member predicts the board will oppose the council. The council postponed next week's elections for campaign time but the supervisors refused. A special session is to be held Tuesday to discuss again.
Phoenix AP reports the Senate approved legislation to shield Grand Canyon National Park from hydroelectric impacts from upstream Glen Canyon Dam. Arizona senators John McCain and Dennis DeConcini co sponsored the measure, which follows a House approval last July. The dam lies on the Colorado River about 30 miles upstream and creates Lake Powell.

Hopi Chairman Vernon Masayesva welcomed Judge Earl Carroll's Phoenix ruling restricting Navajo housing standards for residents on Hopi Partitioned Land. The decision limits construction to essential health and safety repairs for those not yet relocated, while framing relocation as the path to better housing at no cost. Masayesva calls relocation inevitable and beneficial for both tribes.
