A burglary at N Joy Fashions in Cedar Hills Shopping Center left ten fur coats missing police investigated. Cpl. John Schaaf reported a witness saw a shopjumper at the mall. Thomas Lee and Tom McGray, both 26, from Fort Defiance and Window Rock, were booked.

Gutierrez elected McKinley County Democratic chairman

Dan Gutierrez district court clerk was elected chairman at the county central committee meeting. He succeeds Edward Begay who stepped down and was named vice chairman. Gutierrez urged moderation for Democrats ahead of next year’s races and criticized Reagan era tax cuts. Begay noted the county’s reduced representation on the State Democratic Central Committee. Rosemary Dallago kept as treasurer and Guillermo Corral Jr. named secretary.
