Washington AP reports daylight saving time ends at 2 a.m. Sunday in most areas. Clocks are set back one hour except in Alaska Hawaii and parts of Indiana. The change means darker evenings but lighter mornings for early commutes next week.
McKinley County commissioners formally asked the district attorney to take action to finish the $1.7 million Harold Runnels Athletic Complex. An informal agreement aims to resume work after Colton Construction paused Sept. 25 over shipment delays. Escrow funds may be set to pay Kinematics Ltd. for materials amid probes linking designer Milton Costello and the supplier.
Navajo Tribal Council passed a resolution to form a task force against the second round of federal budget cuts. The measure, approved 65 to 0, urges Tribal Chairman Peter MacDonald to act and oppose the IHS and BIA funding reductions affecting Navajo hospitals clinics and education programs.
McKinley County commissioners awarded Burns and McDonnell Co the contract to build a 3.9 mile stretch of County Road 19 near Prewitt for 700000 in Plains Electric and 400000 from the state Community Assistance Council. The vote split with Begay and Vanderwagen in favor while Bowman opposed. Five firms bid. Burns and McDonnell to sign the actual contract Tuesday. Two resolutions approved supporting possible Congressional action opposing federal nuclear safety rules versus state law.

Jay Menapace of Rico Motors in Gallup objects to Navajo Tribal Council claims that the Indian Health Service leases Rico vehicles for 377 per month. He says IHS leases 92 or 93 four wheel drive units at 296 monthly, including maintenance, and notes the tribe plans to buy new units at 250 per month to lease to IHS.
