14 year old Kyle Johnson charged with stabbing man in Gallup

Williams Acres juvenile Kyle Johnson, 14, was arrested after stabbing Duane Medicinecrow, 46, in the shoulder with a kitchen knife. Johnson faces felony counts of attempted homicide and tampering with evidence, plus misdemeanors for drinking as a minor and resisting officers. Medicinecrow, intoxicated, was treated and jailed on unrelated bench warrants.

Night patrol in Zuni Mountains hunts for poachers

In the Zuni Mountains a team of New Mexico Game and Fish officers led by Chadwick and Birkhauser patrols nightworks to nab poachers using spotlights. Officers from Cibola, McKinley, San Juan, Catron and Socorro counties employ decoys and roadblocks to counter theft of elk deer and other game.

Navajo Nation Council calls two day special session

Navajo Nation Council will meet November 13 and 14 in a two day special session to finish actions left from the fall meeting. The budget dispute over travel funds for Division Director Dwayne Boone and Deputy Harald Bahe remains unresolved after strong opposition from the division and Budget-Finance Committee. Several fall agenda items carry over to the winter session January 22 to 26, with tribal law limiting actions to regular sessions. A list of pending matters includes reappropriating 57 465 from last year to the Environmental Protection Agency.

Gallup Performing Arts to appear on state TV show

Gallup Performing Arts Academy students join eight performers for a statewide television program about underage drinking prevention. Albuquerque Channel 13 airs the Underage Drinking Town Hall Meeting Sunday October 22 from 4 to 5 p.m. Host team includes Patricia Madrid Marvin Johnson Deanna Saucedo with about 50 students from across New Mexico.
