The Navajo Nation Council unanimously passed legislation adding a formal Navajo veteran definition to Title 2 of the Navajo Nation Code. The measure authorizes the Department of Veterans Affairs to implement veteran programs and recognizes service members discharged honorably from the US military with DD-214 as Navajo veterans. Council member Jeff Tom sponsored the amendment. Larry Anderson praised the move as long overdue.
Pimothy Arent, 34, an Idaho sex offender employed at the Red Mesa wind farm near Seboyeta, was arrested by the Cibola County Sheriff's Office on a failure to register charge. He had been working at the wind farm since September 7 and living in a motel in Albuquerque, authorities said. See Sex offender, Page 5.
Nine residents from Grants Prewitt and Tohatchi area were seized Monday on federal drug trafficking charges. The arrests followed a five month DEA and BIA probe code named Operation Ye litsohi, involving Jason Jaramillo Lance Roehntz Gilbert Aragon Matthew Gonzales Michael Goodson Georgia Goodson Dion Chato Nephi Chato and Melvin Patton.
