Man charged in Tribal police assault case in Twin Lakes
Paul J. Brown, 20, appeared before Magistrate Ron Grenko on charges of assault with a dangerous weapon related to a June 17 incident in the Twin Lakes area. An FBI raid earlier resulted in Brown’s arrest. A federal grand jury in Albuquerque returned an indictment Oct. 13. Brown is jailed in Gallup on a $10,000 cash bond.

BLM Expands Coal Lease Lands in New Mexico Tracts
The Bureau of Land Management adds 22 000 acres to coal lease considerations in the Gallup Crownpoint area, boosting the total by about a quarter. Jamies Smiley a 34 year old Gamerco man died when he ran from a Gallup police car and collided with an unmarked car driven by Lt. Eddie De Armond near Virgie's Cafe just before 9 p.m. State police say Smiley was intoxicated at the time and authorities investigated a family disturbance.
