Apollo 7 astronauts nearing end of marathon 11 day flight

Apollo 7 crewmates Donn Eisele Walter Cunningham and Walter Schirra Jr show growing irritability as they pass the three quarter mark of their 11 day mission. Officials say 90 percent of objectives are met and only engineering tests remain. The crew, grounded by weather and minor cold, face a homeward return with reentry planned for Tuesday into the Atlantic.

Four Hurt In Two Area Crashes On Interstate 40 And Gallup Road

A tractor trailer carrying seventy five cattle overturned on Interstate 40 two miles east of Continental Divide injuring four cattle and two drivers Leroy Pangle and Melton Oglesby both from Amarillo were listed in fair condition at St Marys hospital. In Gallup area a collision on State Road 32 bypass injured six girls with two treated and released. Mike Grund was cited for failure to yield and improper turn after the Hubbard Vidal crash investigated by State Policeman Robert Hodges.

New York Police Begin Historic Work Slowdown

The 22,000 member Patrolmen's Benevolent Association started a work slowdown to press wage demands. Officers report sick in relays, stop issuing traffic and parking summonses, halt towing illegally parked vehicles, and curtail assignments.
