Gallupman faces ninth DWI charge in Gallup

Fitzgeral Plummer, 39, of Gallup, is charged with ninth DWI after allegedly driving erratically near El Sombrero restaurant on West Historic Highway 66. Deputies reported slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, and a strong odor of alcohol. he was also charged with crossing roadways, careless driving, and driving with a suspended license. Lorrena Chee, 41, said she lent him the car and he was the lone occupant.

AVID Helps Gallup High Students Raise GPA

At Gallup High, AVID enters its second year aiding a subset of struggling students to boost GPA and prepare for college. In a Monday board meeting nearly a dozen students spoke with Assistant Principal Teri Crow and two teachers, sharing how AVID’s writing, collaboration, inquiry, and reading components support their progress.

Grants shelter aids abused women and children in Rabat

Grants Rabat based shelter, begun in 1995 by Sheila Snodgrass and Sally Sanchez, aids women and children facing domestic violence. In 1995 36 women and 62 children were helped. by 2010 the program served 145 women and 191 children. By Oct 1 2010 the shelter had aided 45 women and 21 children this year, with ongoing plans to surpass prior totals. The facility offers seven bedrooms, 12 beds, two kitchens and two living areas at an undisclosed location, and operates 8 am to 5 pm weekdays. It helps with housing jobs GED and refers to other shelters as needed.

Echo Hawk visits Navajo to discuss Indian Country issues

Assistant Secretary Larry Echo Hawk and agency leaders met with Navajo Nation delegates in Window Rock to address trust responsibilities and ongoing concerns.
