Grants man killed by eastbound train near city limits
A 28 year old Milan man Terrell Curley was struck by a Burlington Northern Santa Fe freight train near Grants western city limits around 9 30 pm Wednesday. Police said there was no alcohol involved and the incident appeared accidental with the train needing a half mile to stop. this marks the eighth train related fatality in the Grants Gallup area since July.

Fort Defiance man sentenced in hammer attack
Francis Naswood, 29, of Fort Defiance was given 87 months in federal prison for aggravated assault. He pleaded guilty April 28 to attacking Thomas Whitehead with a hammer after Whitehead stopped to help a stranded motorist during a blizzard. Whitehead, a service member bound for Afghanistan, was seriously injured. Investigation involved the Navajo Nation Police, and the FBI in Gallup.
