Four arrested in Fort Defiance assault case fled
A 31 year old Clinton Mississippi woman was knocked unconscious outside a Fort Defiance convenience store Wednesday night, kidnapped and raped. Three men and a juvenile from Lukachukai Arizona were arrested Thursday in the case and released pending investigation by the FBI and Chinle Navajo police. The suspects are Duane Lee 19 Jamie Clement 19 and Sean Smith 23, with a 16 year old male unnamed. The victim stopped at an ATM before the attack on the reservation.

Brown found guilty of dealing cocaine
Twelve Gallup jurors found George Brown guilty of cocaine trafficking after a week-long trial in Gallup. He was convicted of trafficking and possession of cocaine and will be sentenced at a later date. Brown hugged his wife as deputies handcuffed him following the verdict.

Apache woman jailed 16 months for DWI related manslaughter
Carol Jane Hinton 22, an enrolled San Carlos Apache member from Peridot Arizona, was sentenced by U S District Judge Roger G Strand to 16 months in prison for involuntary manslaughter after a May 26 1997 crash killed a 17 year old Bulas resident. She had pleaded guilty June 9 1998 and was ordered to pay 4868 in restitution and perform 100 hours of community service.
