Police in Taba City reported 284 arrests this week, with 20 for livery dreads and 24 or more bottles of beer or wine. Battery and public intoxication charges rose as officials logged 244 cases at the Indian Medical Center Emergency Room.
Police, sheriff’s deputies and emergency medical technicians from the Navajo Nation Hopi and Apache areas aided in a safe weekend with no fatalities or major incidents. Three individuals arrested on bench warrants were committed temporarily to the See Tuba City.
Thoreau Middle School shut down until Friday after a heating system failure left nearly 400 students in freezing classrooms. Administrators plan to decide midweek if students return, as a contractor begins installing a new heating system.

Freese reports Civil Air Patrol will hold a November 15 meeting at the Armory to recruit 12 and 13 year olds into aviation and space careers. Lt. Col. Claude Luisada of Albuquerque will activate the local squadron with help from at least nine adults, offering flight theory, navigation, and leadership training under CAP’s civilian air force program formed during World War II.
Officials said the Clinic Rug, appraised at three to four times its $125 million suggested value, will be liquidated to fund health care. The Little Sister Clinic Rug was made for the clinic and embodies community vision and sacrifice. Chilchinbeto officials say the plan aims to provide health services at all costs, despite the burden on remote communities.
