Herbert Admits Fraud and Is Barred From Office

Vida Volkert reports Helen Herbert of the To'Nanees' Dizi Chapter Council admitted fraud while in office before the Navajo Nation Ethics and Rules Office. She is removed and disqualified from public elective office for five years and must repay the Navajo Nation $10,000, with installments of $200.

Cibola Voters Approve Hospital Mill Levy Over Three to One

Cibola County residents vote Tuesday to finance hospital services through a mill levy. Unofficial results show 1,947 yes, 598 no, with 17 rejected ballots from 2,562 ballots counted. Clerk Lisa Bro notes countywide non partisan election.

Local schools cited for dirty kitchens in Gallup NM

A New Mexico environment inspector cited JFK Middle School and Gallup Middle School after Oct 4 5 inspections for major kitchen violations. JFK reported exposed insulation near dishwashing and stove with unused equipment harborage for rodents. Gallup Middle had insulation around hot water pipes and under the range hood with potential for foodborne illness. Notices demanded corrective action. other issues included missing ceiling tiles and a rusty walk-in.
