She interviews up to three generations, notes Juanita as an orator and matrilineal cultural conduit, and links stories to creation myths. The research, funded by a Ford Foundation Fellowship, explores why these stories endure amid trauma and disruption.

Laguna man carries Olympics spirit at 97 in Laguna Pueblo
John Pino of Laguna Pueblo recalls a life of feats from marching in the 1927 Rose Parade under Sousa to greeting Pope John Paul II in Vatican. A retired sheepherder, he remains active with daily workouts and long walks, earning gold medals in National Senior Olympic competitions including 1981 to 1991 events. He traveled to Syracuse at 91 for three golds in javelin archery and 880 walk, and continues his regimen with exercise bikes and yard work.
