WINDOW ROCK Six Fort Defiance women testified Thursday to gang violence in their community as Judiciary Public Safety and Government Services committees met. Linda Little Elk, mother of a Rio Puerco housing stabbing victim, spoke of grief and fear, noting gang harassment, drive-by shootings, and a shot dog. She described watching youths on the streets and fearing further harm to grandchildren living in the same home.

Greyhills and Tuba City Agree to Share Gym
In a show of sportsmanship Greyhills Academy High School and Tuba City High School reach a gym sharing agreement for this basketball season. Greyhills will allow use of its gym after public district officials conceded and withdrew a prior request. Tuba City High lacks a gym with capacity beyond 800 and has used the community center gym, which suffered water damage to its wooden floor in September.

Judge denies tribes suit over BIA job cuts
A federal judge denied a request for a temporary restraining order to halt layoffs of Bureau of Indian Affairs workers. Three New Mexico tribes Laguna Pueblo Jicarilla Apache and Acoma Pueblo argued for consultative rights before decisions affecting tribal government. About 1600 BIA jobs face cuts nationwide 490 in New Mexico with 122 Albuquerque area 209 Central Office West and 159 Navajo area positions to be cut locally 100 of these unfilled.
