Two fawns and a yearling were tagged before high winds and hot conditions halted efforts. two helicopters were later used without success. Blood and hair samples were collected for analysis, with results expected in a month.

Navajo Court to Hear Penally Election Suit over Benally
The Navajo Court of Appeals will hear Thursday the appeal of Shiprock candidate Donald Benally disqualified by the Navajo Board of Election Supervisors for allegedly being under the 30 year age minimum to sit on the Tribal Council. Benally, who had the most primary votes in Shiprock, contends he was 30 and disputes the evidence, including a 1976 BIA affidavit claiming a July 6 1948 birthdate. The Shiprock chapter reaffirmed support Sept 10. Tribal Judge Charley John had ruled Benally at 30 in a separate hearing not involving the election board. The 30 year age rule was enacted during June reapportionment changes to election law.
