Tuba City man faces murder rap
Navajo man Venson Howard Deschine, 20, of Tuba City, was arraigned in District Court on aggravated battery tampering with evidence and unlawful use of a weapon charges in the November 1997 beating death of Lawrence Honeyestewn of Mooncope, Ariz. The complaint alleges Deschine struck Honeyestewn with four 40 ounce bottles of Old English beer.

Navajo police probe multiple killings on reservation
On the Navajo reservation Federal agents and Navajo police handle several violent deaths including two homicides. In Red Valley Cornelis Ben 28 of Tsaile was found burned Sept 26. his brother Adam Ben told relatives they fought with David Benally and Jaye Colley of Red Valley. Ben’s body was recovered by family and transported home. In Kayenta Ben Atene Jr 35 of Oljato died after a nighttime fight with delay in care. A truck accident near Monument Valley High School involved Ronnie Haycock intoxicated driver and two passengers, with Ben Atene pronounced dead at the health center. Mary Buck 84 of Shiprock was struck by a car driven by Quentin Martinez 20 of Shiprock Sept 22. Violence is continuing as investigations proceed.
