Historic Mormon Laundry to Become Regional Library in Tuba City
After years idle, the Main Street building known as the old Mormon laundry will be renovated into a 5,000 square foot regional library with a ribbon cutting planned for October 18. A community garage sale this Saturday at St. Jude's Catholic Church raises funds and invites donations with tax-deductible letters. The project, led by TCCP with Navajo Nation speakers and local leaders, has raised funds from Coconino County, DNA People Legal Services and others, with about 250,000 still needed.

Driver in fatal crash tied to long DWI history
SOCORRO AP A motorist with a revoked license and a history of driving while intoxicated has been arrested after a collision that killed his wife, her three children and a teenage niece. The driver, Nathan Santillanes Sr. of Socorro, faced a bench warrant issued last November for probation noncompliance. The crash occurred Saturday evening when his family car was struck by a speeding truck. five people died and four others were injured. Police said alcohol likely involved for both drivers and blood tests were being conducted.

A Gallup woman Kinlichee, 25, says her boyfriend Billy Sam, 29, stabbed him with a kitchen knife after he assaulted her while she was not drinking. Sam fled and is charged with assault. Kinlichee was treated and released. Police also report 15 year olds Organ Yazzie and another teen arrested for aggravated assault and carrying a deadly weapon after a brass knuckles incident at a party. Marian Manuelito, 30, faces DWI and related charges after threatening an officer during arrest. a baby in the car was unharmed. Additional reports include a Twin Buttes man noting a reckless driver and two 15-year-olds arrested for stealing a pickup.
