Navajo President Peterson Zah pushes a resolution to change the tribe’s official name to Dine Nation. The Shiprock Agency Council supported the move, arguing the Spaniard given Navajo label is inaccurate and undermines sovereignty. If approved by all agency councils and chapters, the final decision rests with the tribal council.
The EPA fined Mountain States Petroleum of Roswell New Mexico two thousand dollars and Grand Resources Inc. of Tulsa Oklahoma one thousand five hundred dollars for injecting waste water from oil and gas operations into underground wells. MacDonald faces prior racketeering and tribal court charges with a related corruption probe.
