D A D Lucero bound over after murder charge in Bateman case
Chief Deputy District Attorney Jim Bierly outlined the case accusing Jeremy Lucero of robbing and fatally hacking 87 year old Jeane Bateman with a machete in a Farmington room attack on Nov 23. Lucero’s defense argued health care failure may have contributed to Bateman’s death as the court sent him to District Court for trial. Dr Nadia Granger testified as the final witness in the preliminary hearing.

Memorial Day events honor Navajo fallen at Window Rock and Fort Defiance

At 9:45 a.m burial flags are unfurled and retold, followed by a wreath laid by Navajo Nation President Ben Shelly. A 21 gun salute and Taps conclude events by Tse Hootsoi Twin Warriors Society Honor Guards. Fort Defiance Veterans Cemetery hosts a 1:30 p.m service with 21 gun salute and Taps, conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Bowman Tapahe Post 6789. A parade and memorial celebration are planned at Hillcrest Cemetery starting 8 a.m.

Hantavirus Case in McKinley County Man Hospitalized
SANTAVE AP The New Mexico Health Department reports a third hantavirus case confirmed in the state. A 39-year-old man from McKinley County is hospitalized in critical condition at University Hospital in Albuquerque. Earlier cases were fatal, a 51-year-old woman from McKinley County died in January and a 35-year-old man from Yvonne County died this month. Health officials urge avoiding rodent contact and using disinfectant when cleaning nests or droppings.

Plane crashes near Monument Valley Airport in Utah
A single engine Cessna crashed just outside Monument Valley airport in Utah during a windy landing attempt on May 23. The pilot and five passengers were injured. the pilot was flown to Klagstall Medical Center by a lifeguard helicopter, while other passengers went to Kayenta Health Center and were released soon after. Police cited strong winds from the west possibly causing the plane to land east of the airport.
