Littlewater powwow honors Crownpoint grad Teshawka Martins

Defense claims lack of evidence in Redhorse murder case
In Gallup, defense counsel for Alex Redhorse asks Judge Fouts for reconsideration of charges arguing no evidence supports first degree murder or evidence tampering. Redhorse, 20, is charged with shooting Alec Armijo and Dusty Rye, burning their bodies in the Cibola National Forest Road 191 area. He faces four counts of evidence tampering for burning bodies, disposing of Rye’s cell phone, and burying a shotgun. The charred remains were found by a cyclist on April 18. Albuquerque attorney Sam Bergman and a team of four defend Redhorse.

Navajo Nation Council Faces Budget Shortfall Amid Deficits
In early 2014 the Navajo Nation Council reported spending 61 percent of its annual budget with little capital from the Speaker’s office and Legislative Services. Delegates were told the remaining four months would rely on about $150,000, as committees faced deficits and a continuing resolution capped at $3.96 million. The May balance stood at $732,591 before subtracting $78,468 in standing committee deficits, leaving about $653,648 for the rest of the year after mandatory costs.
